Christmas for Refugees First Year in Syria

Most of the children were either orphans or internally displaced children who had undergone all kinds of trauma. It had been quite some time since these children had access to such a nice, warm and healthy meal. One thing that really stood out from the first event was the very evident joy on the faces of all ages, regardless of the tragedies they had endured.

Christmas Events Begin in Middle East

The Christmas program for 2018 will serve nearly 10,000 children. There were four Christmas events for children the first week of December. Of those four, two were held by brand new churches founded by Syrian refugees. Christmas programs are directed differently in Lebanon because of the sheer number of events and the distances between them.

“I had a 600 square meter home in Mosul. now I live in 6 square meters,” said the 74-year-old science professor who now lives in what can best be described as a booth in a church basement. For those not familiar with metric, his 6,400 square foot home was stolen by the Islamic State, and he now lives in an area of about 64 square feet. He was not exaggerating. He had photos of his home with the Arabic letter “nun” painted on it, and over the door written “Property of the Islamic State.”
